Can I use my social security card and license to enter Canada from NY
l can not find my birth certificate, but to me ''Proof of citizenship''
could be a Social security card. After all you can not get them if you're
not a U.S. citizen. l have a certificate from the hospital (not an actual
birth certificate) that says l was born there (not official) but does have
a seal, and also my immunization records, credit card statements, etc. ....
will this be enough, l hope?
ONLY 7 MORE DAYS, then you MUST have a US passport to enter
Canada, & more importantly, to get BACK INTO THE USA.
By the way, having a SS card is NOT proof of ur US citizenship.
Stop & think about it for a minute... Don't all those legal immigrants,
with a green card ( actually it is pink ) also have a SS card ? So NO it is not a proof of ur nationality,at all. It is just a registration number for ur income tax payments to the US federal Government. The papers that you have now, are NOT enough to enter Canada. The BC must be the original, not a copy, & you also need a photo ID such as a state driver is licence, that has ur signature on it. Sorry you are out of luck, on this . Jim b. Toronto.
If you travel before June 1 you can go to Canada with Drivers
license and Social security card, but expect a hassle in both directions.
After June 1 2009 you need a passport going in both directions.
According to the Canadian Border Service website, a passport is
ideal, but since your coming in from the US, Photo ID and proof of
citizenship is enough. I honestly don't know if a social security card
counts. Your best option would be to call and ask.
